Who pays sadqa-e-fitr?

Every Muslim who, on the morning of Eid ul-Fitr, owns wealth equal to the nisab beyond basic needs pays fitrana for themselves and their minor children. Paying for a wife and adult children is permitted with their consent and is common practice. It should be given before the Eid prayer so that people in need can celebrate Eid.

Fitrana is for the poor and needy — the same recipients as zakat. Those who can afford it are encouraged to pay at the dates or raisins rate.

Rulings vary. Amounts follow the institutions cited. For your own circumstances, consult a mufti or scholar you trust.
